This is a cheap diy for creating a magnetic board. I purchased an oil drip pan for about $12.00 from the automotive department of Walmart, used Valspar spray paint, Command hooks, a hot glue gun, a drill,  a hammer, and a velcro strip. I drilled holes in the oil pan and hung it up using the Command hooks. I had to hot glue around the drilled holes after I hammered them down to ensure that no little fingers would be injured. I then Googled how other people hung theirs, and found out that they used velcro strips to hang the whole pan, then I felt stupid! Lol, so I then used the velcro strips to make the bottom of the oil pan flush to the wall. You could also use chalkboard paint instead of spray paint to have a dual-purpose surface.
