If you are a public school teacher, then chances are, you are familiar with “I Can” statements. Last school year, I used laminated sentence strips to write my “I Can” on. My intentions were to change the standards every time that I introduced a new standard, but let’s get real! I teach kindergarten, and I barely had enough time for a bathroom break. One day during teachers’ planning, I walked into my mentor’s room and saw her new setup (pictured above). I instantly loved it and adopted it for my classroom. I love the fact that I don’t have to write “I Can” statements daily. All I have to do now is flip the chart. If you’re interested, this project consists of:
- wooden dowels (Walmart arts & crafts aisle for about $1.00
- 3M Command hooks (12 pk for about $4.00)
- book rings ($1.87)
- card stock
- “I Can” statements (purchased on Teachers Pay Teachers for $8.00) https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Common-Core-Posters-I-Can-Statements-Math-ELA-Kindergarten-Full-Page-Size-754600
*Make sure that your dowels are small enough to fit into your hooks.
